Part-Time Jobs That Offer Employee Benefits

Working part-time can be tough. Finding a part-time job can be especially tough when it comes to benefits. However, there are a few companies out there that offer part-time employees health and other benefits. If you are looking for work and only have part-time availability you might want to check these companies out. Each company has their own rules so further investigation is necessary on your part.

Whole Foods — Workers scheduled to work more than 20 but less than 30 hours per week are eligible for health benefits. Of course, the employee has to meet certain requirements. There are also a few other perks for working at Whole Foods like paid time off, store discount and stock options after accumulating 6,000 service hours.

Starbucks — From 401(k) with employer match, tuition reimbursement, short-term disability, store discount and paid vacation time, there is a little bit of everything from Starbucks. They also offer healthcare for full and part-time employees and equity in the company in what they call Bean Stock. Starbucks’ health benefits are better than most retailers.

Land’s End — The Didgeville, Wis. based company offers employees on-site child care, an on-site fitness center and an on-site medical center. It also offers continuous (meaning not seasonal) part-time employees dental, vision and life insurance benefits. They also receive an employee discount. Even seasonal employees have access to some benefits throughout the year.

Home Depot — Work 90 days for Home Depot and you are eligible for dental, vision, critical illness and disability coverage.

Lowe’s — Part-timers are eligible for a limited health plan as well as dental and vision care, term life insurance and short-term disability. There is also a 401(k) and part-timers are able to purchase stock at a discounted price.

Trader Joe’s — Provides free coverage for basic dental and vision care to employees who average 15 or more hours per week. They have also giving employees who work more than 15 hours a stipend to help pay for health coverage.

U-Haul — Part-time employees of U-Haul are eligible for limited medical plans and have a 401(k) and stock options. They also receive travel insurance and discounts on vehicle rentals.

REI — If you average 20 or more hours per week you are eligible for medical benefits and they cover the full cost of basic life and disability coverage. The employee discount can be up to 50 percent off on merchandise. Not bad at all.

UPS — UPS is one of the best places to be a part-time employee. They offer hourly employees full benefits with dental and vision coverage as well as tuition assistance. You might need to be there for a certain period of time. They are very supportive of students who work while going to school as well and have a program called “Earn and Learn” at many locations that helps students balance school and work.

COSTCO — After working 180 days employees are eligible for health and dental insurance. They also have access to in-house vision centers and special programs that allow employees access to prescriptions from their pharmacies with low co-pay.

Staples — Employees, after 90 days of employment, are eligible for limited medical coverage except in Washington, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Barnes and Noble — Part-time workers receive paid vacation and personal days, holidays and sick days after six months of employment. There are also medical and dental plans, and a 401(k) with company match up to four percent.

JP Morgan Chase — Benefits are offered to any employee working more than 20 hours a week. Benefits include full health coverage, life insurance, child care assistance, tuition reimbursement, discounts on several products and services and a retirement plan.

Wegmans — There is a reason the Northeast chain is making Fortune magazine’s 100 best companies to work for lists. Part-time employees get health and dental coverage, spending accounts and retirement plans.

The Container Store — Part-time employees are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as life and short and long-term disability insurance. Even spouses and domestic partners are eligible for life insurance coverage. There is also a 401(k) with four percent employer match. The employee discount is at 40 percent as well, not too shabby.
